“A wonderfully creepy one-shot dripping with Poe references. As always from The Arcane Library, the design is elegant and streamlined… Does an excellent job transferring the spirit of Poe's stories into a D&D adventure.” -T.A., drivethrurpg.com ★★★★★

Fun investigation and combat!

Players enjoyed the Poe references and being swallowed by worms. There were a limited number of horses remaining in the stable to bring loot back with them, and they decided to take a barrel of amontillado instead of bringing the count to justice. As I should've expected from them, I suppose.

Well-written, easy-to-run adventure for experienced and new groups alike

As a GM I liked:
- the what and why of each area clearly and succinctly stated
- ditto for the NPCs and creatures
- easy to find information
- easy to fit into an existing campaign with lots of further hooks
The players liked:
- a fun story uniquely presented
- lots of little non-combat challenges (dealing with the horses, the environment, and NPCs)
- memorable NPCs, creatures, and mechanics

This adventure is great for GMs and players, veteran or new. The descriptions and motivations of the characters and creatures are written so as to be easily adaptable to any existing world and any RPG system.

Experienced group loved it

I ran this as a one-shot for my experienced group, when our regular GM postponed our regular game when a player couldn't make it for a critical scene. I loved running it, and my group loved it so much, our regular GM and the other players asked if we could continue the adventure whenever one of the group couldn't make it for our regular campaign. Easy to run, easy to adapt for different number of players. Totally recommended ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

So easy to run!

I'm about to run this for the third time in 4 months, it's just so easy! I can throw this out with a minutes notice, because it takes nothing to prep. Players are happy everytime, and I can focus on bringing it to life, not reading page after page of stuff. Thanks for an awesome product!

Perfect ratio of horror to action

I used this story as a side quest for my favorite two PCs - my kids. I have a 13 year old and a 9 year old. The 13 year old was starting to check out. Playing DND with one’s dad and brother is not so cool as a teenager. This bit of storyline hooked her in and brought our family time back together. There is just enough horror to be scary (the 9 year old was definitely unsettled, but handled it), but not over the top. The only significant mod I made was the little girl’s mother was not dead. Both kids needed to be able to save the mom. Thank you for writing the story that saved our family time.
